FABRIC SUGGESTION
1. Wool suiting: A classic choice for tailored garments, wool suiting is durable, easy to work with, and comes in a range of weights and textures.
2. Tweed: For a more rustic or vintage look, tweed can be a great option. It’s a heavier fabric with a distinctive texture and often comes in earthy colors.
3. Cotton sateen: A lighter-weight option than wool, cotton sateen has a slight sheen and a smooth surface, which can give the vest a more polished look.
4. Linen: A lightweight and breathable fabric, linen can be a good choice for warmer weather. It does tend to wrinkle easily, but that can also add to its charm.
5. Silk: For a more luxurious option, silk can be used for the vest. It has a soft drape and a subtle shine, but can be more delicate and require more care in handling.
FABRIC ESTIMATES
Depending on the garment size, from 0.70 to 0.85 yards of 60-inch width fabric.
TRIMS & ACCESSORIES
β Buttons: you will need buttons for the front closure of the vest. The number of buttons will depend on the size of the vest and the size of the buttons you choose.
β Fusible interfacing: as previously mentioned, you will need fusible interfacing for the front facing, back neckline facing, center front part, and shoulder seams.
β Sewing thread: choose a color of thread that matches the fabric you are using for the vest.
β Sewing machine: you will need a sewing machine to sew the vest. Make sure the machine is in good working order and that you have the correct needles and bobbins for your fabric.
β Sewing scissors: use sharp sewing scissors to cut the fabric and any trims you will be using.
β Pins: use pins to hold the fabric pieces together before sewing.
β Iron: use an iron to press the fabric and seams as you sew. A steam iron is recommended for best results.
β Buttonhole cutter or seam ripper: you will need a tool to cut the buttonholes after they are marked and sewn. A buttonhole cutter or seam ripper can be used for this purpose.
