Your pattern has been printed out correctly if outer sides of the “Test Square” (which you find in a pattern brochure) measure 10 cm or 3 15⁄16 inches. If you don’t get these measurements, check your printer settings and try again. Key points here:
A. Open the pattern PDF file in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
B. Try printing out just one of the pattern pages. When the print dialogue box opens up, you might have to look through the print settings and ensure you have things set to ensure there’s NO SCALING.
C. Each printer is different. For example, I can set “Custom Scale” to 100% on my computer. Some others can choose “Actual Size” or “no scaling” or set page scaling to “None.” You should also select “Auto portrait/landscape.”
There are various reasons why a file may not print to the correct size or not print at all. I’ve listed the most common reasons below:
– You are printing the wrong file for your printer. People often need clarification on the different files and paper sizes. Please check what paper and printer size you use and ensure the file name corresponds to that size.
– Your pattern is printed off the edge of the paper. That could be because you need to print the correct size file, and it could be because you need to get your scale right. Make sure your scale is set to either “100% scale” or “actual size.” Make sure you are not printing with “fit to page” checked.
Please also read the “PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS” section in the pattern brochure.
There are various reasons why this could be.
To minimize risks, you should open pattern files with a program that can open PDFs, such as Adobe Reader (you can download Adobe Reader for free online). Please do not use Microsoft Word or your internet browser, as it doesn’t like PDF files and can distort your files.
If you have a “The file is corrupted” pop-up message when you open a file, please re-download it, as it may have been corrupted during the download process.
To put the pattern together at home, you must print all pattern pages if these are in A4 format. Once these are printed, tape the pages together, carefully matching the numbered and lettered pattern tiles.
After that, you will have a complete pattern ready to cut your size! Or use A0 format in a print shop, and you will get a lovely printed pattern ready.
